The Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t 900S is a handheld XRF analyzer configured with the Metals application, featuring General Metals and Precious Metals modes and Spectral Fingerprint functionality for nondestructive material identification.
The Thermo Scientific Niton XL3t 900S is a handheld X-ray fluorescence analyzer designed for nondestructive elemental analysis and material identification. This unit is configured with the Metals application, incorporating General Metals and Precious Metals modes, along with Spectral Fingerprint functionality. The instrument is intended for in-field or benchtop use where rapid, repeatable elemental composition data is required without altering or damaging the tested material.
The XL3t 900S utilizes a helium purge system that displaces ambient air within the measurement path, enabling the detection and quantification of light elements that are otherwise difficult to measure using handheld XRF technology. This configuration supports analysis of elements such as magnesium, aluminum, silicon, and phosphorus within applicable alloy matrices. The analyzer employs a high-performance semiconductor detector combined with real-time digital signal processing and embedded computation to produce compositional results within seconds of measurement.
Spectral Fingerprint is provided as a dedicated application separate from the Metals environment. This functionality allows users to compare unknown materials against stored spectral references based on their X-ray fluorescence response. Rather than relying solely on grade libraries, Spectral Fingerprint supports material discrimination through spectral pattern comparison, assisting with material matching, verification, and sorting where compositional similarity is critical.
