Refurbished Olympus / Evident Vanta VCR handheld XRF analyzer with AlloyPlus method for alloy identification and elemental measurement. 40 kV Rh C Series configuration with SDD detector, delivering ppm-level detection capability to 100% concentration.
The Olympus Vanta VCR is a handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzer designed for on-site elemental measurement of non-human materials. This refurbished VCR model is part of the Vanta C Series and is configured with a 4 W, 40 kV X-ray tube using a rhodium (Rh) anode and a silicon drift detector (SDD). The instrument supports alloy identification and elemental quantification across a wide concentration range using a staged excitation architecture.
This VCR configuration operates with a three-beam excitation structure designed to optimize energy distribution across light and transition elements commonly encountered in alloy analysis. The instrument automatically sequences three discrete tube voltage settings:
This multi-energy architecture enables improved elemental separation and spectral clarity across broad alloy matrices where XRF measurement is applicable.
The Vanta VCR utilizes an 8-position, auto-selected primary beam filtration system in combination with its 4 W Rh tube and silicon drift detector. The configuration is documented as capable of measuring elemental concentrations from parts-per-million (ppm) levels up to 100% concentration in alloy analysis mode.
Published Limits of Detection (LODs), calculated at a 3σ (99.7%) confidence level using 60-second test times per beam, include chromium (Cr) down to 40 ppm in Fe-base alloys, nickel (Ni) down to 40 ppm in Fe-base alloys, molybdenum (Mo) down to 7 ppm in Fe-base alloys, and niobium (Nb) down to 6 ppm in Fe-base alloys under defined test conditions. Actual detection limits vary depending on alloy matrix composition, measurement time, and elemental interferences.
